PROOF OF GOD!

By Randy Loudenslager

Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. John 20:29

Does God need to prove his existence? No! God has already done so, he has made the evidence of his existence plain for all to see through what has been made, that is, the creation. Why is it then that the so-called church uses the tiny fragment of the time that it allots to God in the pursuit of evidence of his existence?

The vast majority of Christians never venture past themselves in their spiritual walk. They don't look to God, but instead they dash from one confirmation of his presence to another. Modern Christians in the developed nations are milk drinkers at best. That is, they do not seek God in his Word because they can't. They are blind and deaf. Their questions of God are just marginally concealed by their religion, but in essence they are no different than the unbeliever who says, "God, if you exist then prove it to me."

Many self-proclaimed believers ride a roller coaster of spiritual peaks and valleys. They peak when they see proof of God's existence, but rather than becoming more intimate with the LORD and drinking more deeply of his presence they opt for the initial rush of 'finding' him and coast for a little while. Once this momentum is spent they sink fast with the cares of this world and find themselves in a valley of their own making. Once again they need to 'find' God and they cry out for him to reveal himself and so the cycle goes on.

Let's face it brethren, we are a stiff necked generation. We constantly demand a sign from God. Just who do we think we are to demand anything from God? Have we no shame before our God? Your very life, regardless of how long or short, pleasurable or dreadful, is all the evidence you will ever need and it will be submitted in court on judgment day! Your life cries out the justice of God, as does the life of every human being, whether saved or not! God has had mercy upon all mankind. He is patient with us just as any loving Father could be with sons and daughters, only exceedingly more. But God's patience should make you tremble! His long-term patience will justify the overwhelming intensity of his coming wrath!

So many of us who have cast out demons, healed the sick and led others to salvation's gate will expect to hear, "well done good and faithful servant," but many will not hear it. What they will hear is "away from me you evildoer I never knew you!" You see, we are consumed with the desires of the flesh, no, not necessarily carnal lust, greed or materialism, but the sinful desire of making God fit into our plans rather than our complete submission to God and his desires.

Between your gnashing of teeth you are probably questioning why I would state that most people who 'claim' to know Jesus are only thinly disguised unbelievers who are still trying to determine whether God truly exists or not from day to day. Many of you live your lives from miracle to miracle with great barren stretches in between. Many have cast their burdens upon Jesus only to take your eyes off him and pick up new burdens that you subsequently cast off to Jesus and on and on. For others only the 'magical' moment of corporate worship will suffice in showing evidence of God's existence. And when you exit your building you will have shared the same chemical emotional rush that the kid downtown experienced at the rock concert that just let out.

If we as humans need to experience the supernatural in order to believe then we are no different than the crack addict in the slum. We both need fixes to feel better! The addict experiences a self induced supernatural experience of temporary euphoria. The storm tossed so-called believer is no different, he uses God as a fix or a patch for the moment. To them God is a drug or a drink that wards off the agony of this life.

This is not the life of Christ. Yes, there are moments for all of us that require us to call out to God to save us from our own selfishness and rebellion, but Jesus promised us abundant life, not moments of abundant life! Jesus isn't a quick fix in a time of emergency, he is the life line, he is to be our way of life. In essence Jesus is the vine and we are the branches. Jesus said "apart from me you can do nothing," so why part from him until you need another fix?

Satan knows these truths about us. He will send his son to deceive us and the world. The antichrist will perform all sorts of miracles and signs and will win legions of worshipers who need these signs to believe!

You are being warned now, for soon change will become increasingly difficult, if not impossible! The enemy is already at the gates and yet few blow the horn!

Jesus told us that those who believe without seeing are blessed. Don't underestimate what he means by blessed. Your life is evidence of the existence of God and it is evidence of whether you believe without seeing or not. Examine the definition of faith in Hebrews 11:1-2:

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.

Being certain of what you cannot see is at the core of a true and unwavering believer in Jesus Christ. It is to be a constant in our lives, a life of faith and not a quick fix stop when things don't go according to our desires. This is what the Word says about the rest of humanity:

. . . he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the LORD; he is double-minded, unstable in all he does. James 1:6-8

I stand upon the wall and I gaze at the horizon. What do I see? I see a storm cloud of evil covering the earth. It advances toward the wall at an alarming speed as it consumes lands and peoples. I stand and blow the trumpet to warn you of the enemy's approach. I will blow this trumpet until the enemy takes it from my hand. Your blood is on your own head! Fall upon your face, fall upon the mercy of the LORD! Humble yourselves and repent as you breath the dust of the earth. Yes, even now is not too late!

Spend your life on your face before him! Let him stand victorious over you as a conqueror. He is a merciful and just king and will pardon you. He is not coming as a conqueror of new territories but to punish the revolt of his kingdom and seize back what belongs to him!

Do not try to save your life and serve him at the same time! You cannot serve two masters! You know in your heart that you are a sinner. His grace cannot save you if you attempt to save yourself! He who lays down his life will pick it up again. You will be rescued from the coming wrath by doing so.

"God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." Submit yourselves, then, to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the LORD, and he will lift you up. James 4:6-10
