MIXED BLESSINGS
By Randy Loudenslager
Christian and Jewish circles in the United States have been buzzing with activity for the last several days over efforts by Congress to show solidarity with Israel. This is very important because Congress, particularly the House of Representatives, is supposed to represent the will of the people. The will of the people is to support Israel. This is a fact that Congress seems to understand better than President Bush.
Bush attempted to exert pressure on key leadership in Congress to not pass any resolutions that would hamper his Middle East efforts. He failed to persuade Congress to halt any such effort, but he was successful in stopping the House from its attempt to identify Congress's position as one of no Palestinian state.
This is a mixed blessing for America. God will approve of Congress's action and bless America for the moment, but Bush will bring more curses upon America in the long term. By his own words he has ensured that curses will be her lot, "A Palestinian state must be achieved by negotiation and an end to occupation." This statement by Bush has summed up his plans for Israel and the Palestinians, thereby taking action against the covenant.
There is need to clarify the issue here. The world says the issue is peace and this is a rare time when Christians should agree. The world says that peace should come at any price and this is where Christians should part ways. The world says the price for peace is Israel's sacrifice of her land to the Palestinians. To the hearts and minds of believers this should be tantamount to a declaration of war by the world against God!
The way to peace is Jesus Christ. Israel should want peace with her neighbors, but peace with God is paramount to peace on earth. Without peace found in taking refuge in God through obedience to his covenant there will be no peace on earth.
Israel is entering her darkest period. Her majority refuses to turn to God. Israel is for all intents and purposes a secular state and her people follow suit. The Bible prophesies that Israel will not listen to God's call. Her people will clasp hands with pagans. Israel is entering agreements with her enemies as she is seduced into a land for peace deal. She will follow foreign religions. Eastern mysticism, the occult and new age influences are beginning to take their toll on Israeli society. She will resume the practice of infant sacrifice. Israel's Defense Forces have begun dispensing the "morning after" pill to her female soldiers and each woman in the armed forces is entitled to one abortion while in the service of Israel. She is loosing her ability to see, she is blind!
Most Jews, conservative or liberal, are focused on building a secular Zionist state rather than living as loyal subjects of their true king, God. This was true of their ancestors under King Saul and many kings that followed him. Most do not look forward to the coming of their messiah, but a golden age of Zionism based on Humanism and not the Holy Scriptures. They see the denial of a Palestinian state formed from the territories as a way to enhance their security and maintain some purity as an exclusive Jewish culture. Your security concerns can be addressed if you will just give us some of your land say the Palestinians and Arabs. In fact, if you agree to give up the West Bank and Gaza the entire world will guarantee your security, they continue. This dangling carrot will appear more and more enticing to a people who have little or no relationship with their true king or any interest in keeping His covenant.
Many in the Christian world see the events that are happening as the prelude to a massive revival of the Jews who will supposedly turn in droves to Jesus as savior. God's word does not support this in the least. On the contrary the LORD explicitly warns otherwise. Many talk of Israel's last dispersion or Diaspora throughout the world by the Romans as the final one. Again this is not true, Israel will be plundered and exiled one last time during the desolation period to come. The final gathering of Israel has not taken place yet, she will be gathered when Jesus Christ begins His reign over the earth from Jerusalem. God will reserve for himself 144,000 who have not bent their knee to Baal (symbolizing pagan idols and the breaking of the covenant).
We must be very careful to check the scriptures for ourselves just as the Bereans did with Paul. Many of us will be deceived and fall away from the faith in the last days. They will become apostates because they cared so little for their king that they didn't seek his will for themselves in the scriptures but followed the ear tickling myths taught by man. As a result they will be unable to discern the times and events and will be found not watching for Christ's return. They will come before the King of kings and cry out 'LORD, LORD,' but He will say, "Away from me you evil doers, I never knew you!"
