Birth of the Euro-Army
By Randy Loudenslager

The selection of what was supposed to be a UN peacekeeping force for Afghanistan has has been completed. Under the veil of the UN peacekeeping mission to Afghanistan, the British military, that will lead these forces, has selected the 14 participating nations. Only one nation outside of the European Union was selected, New Zealand, a nation with close ties to England. Oddly, Canada, always close with Britain, was left out of the selection process.

This was a coup for the EU in two ways. First, they have set in motion the idea of a unified European army, an idea that on the surface is denied by the EU government, but EU actions prove different. This move will greatly solidify the EU into one unified power. The United States, as a NATO member, has opposed a standing EU army, hence the denial of the European leaders. Second, the EU has made a political statement to the world that it is ready to play in international affairs, and has made this statement via military unification. UN peacekeeping missions are typically, although not always, largely funded and manned by the United States. To have the EU monopolize the mission and capitalize on U.S. war efforts makes quite a statement about the new power and confidence of the EU!

Is it any wonder why Russia and China are courting the EU? The balance of power will shift greatly as the EU pulls away from traditional security alliances with the U.S. to stand on her own. This is something greatly hoped and worked for by European Socialists, Russia and China. As the EU grows stronger the need for NATO's military purposes of common defense will wither away, eventually changing NATO into a political institution, exactly what Russia has been calling for!

There will be a day when the EU will request the removal of U.S. forces from her soil and the closing of American bases. There will be times when the EU will be with the U.S. and times where she will side with Russia and China on political issues. This will make for a far weaker America than we see today. A weaker America will leave Israel isolated and alone.

This may appear to be gloomy news, but believers in Jesus Christ are not about espousing national loyalties as our first priority, but loyalty to our king, Jesus. We love our nations to, but one only has to read the Bible to see the road of destruction all nations are on. Pray for America, yes, but more importantly, pray for the peace of Jerusalem when our LORD comes again on the last day!
