WHO SAID IT?
By Randy Loudenslager
Can you guess who said the following? "The only long-term solution is for two states - Israel, Palestine - to live side by side in security and in peace. That will require hard choices and leadership by Israelis, Palestinians and their Arab neighbors. The time is now for all to make the choice for peace."
Who would dare to say that the only solution to the Middle East conflict was for Israel to forsake her covenant with God? Who would dare to contradict God's word and say that Israel will live side by side in peace with her enemies? Since when is it a hard choice for the Palestinians who have everything to gain and nothing to loose? Can such a person have the mind of Christ or is this person simply blinded by a lie, seeing only what he wants to see and hearing only what tickles the ear?
Why is it that so many people who 'claim' to be believers in Jesus Christ actually agree with his proclamation? Why, even as Israel victoriously defends her covenant from her enemies, does this person demand that Israel stop doing so? By what right is such a man allowed to call Israel his friend and lead her to her doom at the same time?
We all know who this man is. For some of you he is known as an American simpleton. For Americans, he is President George W. Bush. The man many American Christians (including this writer) lauded as a Godly man who would set right the wrongs established by former President Bill Clinton. He in fact has done much to bring respectability back to the office of president. He has reversed many of the travesties of the Clinton administration. He has stood tall and strong when America needed such a leader since September 11th. But these things are of little importance compared to what we are doing to the apple of God's eye, Israel!
I applaud his good works here in America, but if he sets his face against Israel then I must stand against him. God makes it very plain, "May those who bless you [Israel] be blessed and those who curse you be cursed." To lead Israel into rebellion against God's covenant rather than to refuge in the Almighty is to bring curses down upon Israel and ourselves. As Israel goes so goes America. Pray for our leaders that God will open their eyes.
These are hard words and will not be accepted by all. My authority is God's word. Unlike many, I am not in the business of growing an e-mail list, God has done a fine job at that. He has given me a vision and the means by His Holy Spirit to carry it to completion. Those who have ears let them understand what the Spirit says to the church.
