RESOLUTION 1402

By Randy Loudenslager

In an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council resolution 1402 was passed. Only Syria abstained from supporting the U.S. backed resolution. The resolution called for an immediate cease-fire to be declared by Israel and the Palestinian Authority. Also included in the resolution is a demand for Israel to pull out of Palestinian controlled areas.

The EU, Jordan, Morocco and Egypt have all warned Israel not to harm Yassar Arafat and to withdraw from his compound in Ramallah after the most extensive military incursion to date occurred over the weekend. The incursions are in response to multiple and devastating terror attacks against Israeli citizens. Arafat, now holed up on a single floor of his office building while Israeli troops patrol within the compound, continues to taunt the Israeli government while trying to maintain morale of those with him in his offices.

Israel, perplexed by the swiftness with which the UN resolution was enacted, protested to the U.S. that no such suddenness of action took place by the UN when innocent Israelis were killed by terrorists linked to Yassar Arafat's government. The U.S. President George Bush appeared to have comforted Israel on its swift backing of the resolution by telling Israel the resolution was designed to force Arafat to adopt the cease-fire proposals laid out by Anthony Zinni who is moderating cease-fire attempts between Israel and the Palestinians. Prime Minister Ariel Sharon of Israel personally would not answer phone calls during operations in Ramallah in order to avoid international pressures.

President Bush's comforting of Israel and defense of the UN Security Council action intentionally or unintentionally masks the true nature of the UN's intent. The Arab League successfully presented to the world a facade of a peace loving Arab peoples. This success has forced Israel diplomatically into a corner. She must demonstrate peaceful concessions to the Palestinians or face threats of sanctions and war down the road. In order to appear balanced the UN includes rhetoric within its condemnations against Israel that appear to condemn terrorism as well, but these are deceptions from a political body. Israel has only a limited time within which to fortify her security by attacking the terrorist infrastructure in Palestinian territories. Eventually the world will not restrain itself from its pro-Palestinian bias and the memory of dozens of dead Israelis will be no more. Bush has called for Israel to groom her need to defend herself to fit the so-called need to come to a peaceful solution.

The world recognizes the establishment of a Palestinian state from Israel's inheritance as the only peaceful solution. The world is searing its conscience with a hot iron! It refuses to submit to the evidence that clearly shows Palestinians are killing unarmed men, women and many children. Israel is showing undue constraint in limiting her responses to killing only those who shoot first. As in any war some bystanders are killed as is the case when Israel takes action to secure her lands, but the Palestinians have targeted relatively few military personnel, choosing instead to kill as many Jews as possible with no discrimination as to age or gender.

The world delights in wickedness and does not love the truth. Now is the time that God's delusion settles over the earth and they will believe the lie. Even though they see the fulfillment of the prophecies they will curse God's name and God's people and then God will bring his curses down on them!
