PEACE AND SECURITY?
By Randy Loudenslager
The Arab League has voted without dissension in favor of the Saudi peace initiative. The initiative, as spelled out in committee, calls for Israel to pull back to her pre-1967 borders, to allow Palestinian refugees to emigrate back into the territories or be paid restitution by Israel and the establishment of a Palestinian state in the territories with East Jerusalem as its capital. In exchange for these concessions the members of the Arab League will normalize relations with Israel and consider hostilities over. Israel's Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is reported to be skeptical, referring to the term 'normalizing of relations' as being too vague. Sharon has also said that complete withdrawal from the territories is impossible because of security concerns. The next planned step by the Arab League is to present the initiative to the UN Security Council.
Despite Sharon's rejection of the proposal the left-wing of the Israeli government is expected to try to help the initiative along in Israel with Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Foreign Minister Shimon Peres as its probable champion.
It has finally happened, the Arabs are speaking with one voice. This is a rare occurrence and is most noteworthy due to the fact that although they have agreed in the past to have relations with Israel it has always been through war and not peace. They rightly claim (as the world views it) that the burden of peace is now on Israel because Islam has proved that it is a peaceful religion and the Arabs are a peaceful people. With the League presenting the Saudi plan to the UN it will be presented to an international venue. The pressure from the 'international community' for Israel to accept the plan and break with God's covenant may become unsurmountable.
What is just as noteworthy to believers is that the war-monger nations such as Iraq and Libya have agreed to the stipulations in the plan calling for a full normalizing of relations with Israel. These developments must be watched by believers closely, they are essential to the fulfillment of prophecy.
We are witnessing the fulfillment of prophecy, the stage is set for the rebellion to occur and the time of punishment to follow. Please don't misunderstand, Israel can still turn back to God even now and overcome, by His power, the pressure to conform in the coming days. Sadly it is only a matter of time before Israel's leaders will capitulate to the world and like Esau they will despise their inheritance. When Israel's leaders act against the covenant they will be shown favor by the antichrist. Never before have all the components been in place for the last days prophecies to take place. Come LORD Jesus!
