A Lawless Man and a Super Gun
By Randy Loudenslager

Prior to 1991 and the Desert Storm conflict, Iraq was the only nation who had developed and built a super gun. Iraq never used the gun they had designed to fire nuclear, chemical and biological shells and to theoretically launch satellites into orbit. At present, Iraq is still the only nation to have this gun, but now U.S. and Israeli intelligence believe that Iraq may have three to four of these super guns. These latest super guns are far more advanced and effective than the original cannon.

There are two sizes of these guns. The larger gun has a 1,000 mm (39.37 inches) diameter barrel, and is 260 meters (284 yards) long with a maximum range of 2,000 miles. The smaller version has a 350 mm (13.8 inches) diameter barrel, and is 30 meters (33 yards) long with a maximum range of 250 miles.

It has long been suspected that Iraq has had nuclear capabilities, thanks to Russia. The ranges of these super guns would easily include all of Israel. The guns could be hidden and fired from anywhere in Iraq. Nuclear capability would make pin point accuracy unnecessary to cause devastating destruction.

Saddam Hussein has learned much from Desert Storm. An American army will not find a massive lumbering army facing them as they did in 1991. Saddam has rethought his military strategies and has opted for the American example. He has broken his armies up into smaller, mobile and aggressive units. These small units are capable of operating independently of central command. Highly mobile and heavily armed, they will be far harder to target and destroy than the stagnant army Iraq fielded in 1991.

It would appear that even while his people suffer under U.N. and U.S. sanctions, Saddam has been able to carry out the modernizing of his army. This is an intriguing and intelligent man who learns and adapts very quickly. He is by far the most vocal leader of any state in advocating Israel's destruction. He has made friends with most of his enemy neighbors and has the technological help, weapons supply and political backing of Russia and China. He has shown, during Desert Storm, his willingness to strike Israel and to use chemical agents.

God has always stopped men of lawlessness, but the time will come when the man of lawlessness spoken of in 2 Thessalonians chapter 2, will not be opposed and he will have his way on earth and against Israel. Daniel tells of an overwhelming army and a prince of the covenant who are swept away by the man of lawlessness. As believers we know that the battle belongs to the LORD! We may see the destruction of mighty militaries, our own or others, but still the battle is the LORD's. Saddam is shrewd and could offer olive branches to buy time. I will not make misleading statements by saying that he is the antichrist, but he is among those we need to watch. Just think, if he were to offer peace to Israel, the world will applaud this man as a true visionary! He already has many friends in the world. Despite his actions, delusions are easily created. Israel may yet fight more wars, but that is not a sign of the beginning of the tribulation. Look for the sign of Israel at peace with her enemies and then watch the men who made it happen!
