New Signs of War
and Peace
By Randy Loudenslager
On the war front things continue to heat up between Iraq and America. As Israeli Defense Force officials look ahead to what might be, they have requested that if the United States attacks Iraq, to attack western Iraq first. During Desert Storm, Iraq launched their missiles, at Israel, from the western part of the country and now Israel wants America to preemptively strike this region if war comes. America has been quick with war rhetoric against Iraq, but if an attack on Iraq is to occur, U.S. forces will have to replenish their depleted stockpile of cruise missiles, a very costly and time consuming process. The U.S. used a large portion of her missiles during the Kosovo and Afghanistan conflicts. Meanwhile, things have changed for Iraq since the days of Desert Storm. Iraq is no longer viewed as a rogue nation as she is beginning to enjoy closer relationships with other Arab nations. Former enemy, Saudi Arabia, has joined with other nations, including Russia, in stating they wouldn't tolerate an attack against Iraq without proof of her involvement in the attacks on the World Trade Towers. We can expect to hear from Russia as Washington rhetoric against Iraq heats up. This will not be another Desert Storm.
Peace efforts are resuming as America is sending Middle East mediator, General Anthony Zinni, back to Israel , again. This is happening in part because the Palestinians are making a more credible attempt to satisfy Israel's demands for the ceasing of violence against Israelis in order for peace talks to resume. Meanwhile, Iran, sworn enemy of Israel, seems to be emulating the Palestinian's efforts. Apparently, Iran is in the beginning stages of moderating it's hard-line stance against Israel. Iran's militant stance against Israel is considered, by most experts, to be more severe than that of the Palestinians. Iran has bank rolled, supplied and trained terrorist groups against Israel for decades, but now her leadership seems to be trying to wear the hat of a peace maker. Remember, moderation and peace overtures mean nothing in the big picture of end-time Bible prophecy. Persia, modern day Iran, is one of the nations that is allied with Gog in the 38th and 39th chapters of the book of Ezekiel. These nations allied with Gog will sweep over the land of Israel like a cloud when she is secure in her peace treaties. Watch for wolves in sheeps clothing.
