It's All About Israel
By Randy Loudenslager
Most readers of this column will note that most of my analysis encompasses the same nations repetitively. There is good reason for this. This column serves to keep believers equipped to obey the LORD Jesus' command to watch for his return. In order to watch we need to know what to watch for, what are the signs and prophecies that will be fulfilled. Naturally the Bible is the source for Christians to find God's word about what is to come.
The Bible story focuses on God's relationship with man through Israel. Ultimately God sends his son Jesus through Israel to redeem man and it is through Jesus that the new kingdom will be ushered in on the last day. Since the antichrist will invade Israel and set up the abomination in the rebuilt temple in Jerusalem and the nations will be gathered against Israel on the last day and the tribulation (desolation) mainly focuses on Israel's punishment it would be a logical conclusion to watch events that transpire in and around Israel. Most last days prophecy deals directly with Israel and is primarily focused on the tribulation, making it the most relevant news topic to believers.
Some nations involved in Israel's demise are listed in the scriptures. Such books as Isaiah and Ezekiel refer to these nations in depth and even spell out their final demise at the hands of the LORD. This is why we frequently refer to Russia (land of Gog and Magog), Iraq (Babylon), Iran (Medo-Persia), Egypt, Sudan (Cush), etc.You may also notice that America is often mentioned in my articles. Although she is not mentioned by name in the Bible, America's role at present is crucial to Israel's survival, America is the only nation in the world that would defend Israel if attacked. Some day America will not stand between Israel and her enemies. What will bring this about is not clear from the scriptures, but it will happen.
The last days will seem fantastic in many ways and yet in some ways they won't match our fantastic imaginations or expectations. We must always look at the events of our times through the lens of prophecy and understanding from the Holy Spirit that can only be discerned in a humble and repentant heart.
