My response: I probably will not be able to answer this question to your satisfaction within a few sentences, but you can always ask more questions. Right? ;)

The rapture will take place at the resurrection. The resurrection happens after the signs in the sky (sun and moon go dark and stars fall). The signs happen at the end of this age, better known as the day of the LORD. The day of the LORD comes as the last day of the desolation (tribulation). In a nutshell, the resurrection happens after the tribulation and on the last day of the reign of Satan and his antichrist over the earth. As Jesus said four times in John chapter 6, "I will raise you up on the last day."
